We’re usually all about the gaming here at getmeexcited but I thought we’d have a roundup of a different sort tonight.
As well as our games we do love our tv shows and with the new fall season starting this week over in yankland I thought we’d give you a little heads up about whats on over the next few months.

Fringe
Season 4 Premier : 23 Sept :
Where else to start but with Mr J.J.Abrams. Many would say he’s helped give us some of the best tv and movie moments of the past few years from the 6 season marmite-esque lost series to the superb cloverfield. so whats he got for us this season? If you like science fiction and cop shows but haven’t treated yourself to this often brilliant show then do yourselves a favour and get hold of the first 3 seasons right now, close the curtains, order the pizza and spend this weekend catching up! you wont regret a second. The end of season 3 was the usual “no f*kin way” moment and I for one am looking forward to how they’re going to continue the story.

Person Of Interest
Season 1 Premier : 22 Sept :
The second of Abrams offerings; According to CBS the pilot for this new drama got the highest test ratings of any such show in over 15 years, so much so that they moved CSI from its 10 year slot to make way for this one. But like any new show lets wait and see. Its certainly got some proven talent behind it, its created by Jonathan Nolan….who?…well he wrote the short story which the amazing Momento film was based upon and most recently he co-wrote the screenplay for both the latest Batman movies The Dark Knight and in 2012 The Dark Knight Rises. Amongst its stars is Michael Emerson who played Benjamin Linus in Lost. Definately one to look out for!

Terra Nova
Season 1 Premier : 26 Sept :
The Fox Network joins forces with some guy called Steven Spielberg to bring us a new SciFi drama showing us a futuristic planet Earth in the year 2149 which has been totally screwed over by…well…us. Most Plant and Animal life have become extinct and Scientist have ran out of ideas…apart from one. Lets build a time machine, go back to dinosaur land and start all over again. It sounds abit crap but you never know!

Revenge
Season 1 Premier : 21 Sept :
I’ve not got much info about this one other than its about a girl who learns that the reason she is who she is was down to a few familys and their hidden secrets, the interesting bit is that instead of forgiving them she decides to get her revengie! could be rubbish but might just be a hidden hit.

Two and a Half Men
Season 9 Premier : 19 Sept :
Charlies dead, long live the winning king! But the show must go on as they say and its time for that git ashton to take over. Mixed reviews for the first epsiode post Charlie Harper era, so time will tell if this will be the last ever season.

Homeland
Season 1 Premier : 02 Oct :
A pyschological thriller about a U.S soldier who was thought to have died 10 years ago returns home as a hero P.O.W but some people suspect he may be a member of a sleeper cell ready to cause a terrorist attack. This has got some good reviews and if you now where to look the pilot is already out on the interwebs.

The Playboy Club
Season 1 Premier : 19 Sept :
Its based around Hef’s legendary Playboy Club in Chicago..what else do you need to know? Its set in the 60′s and tells the story of gangsters, mobsters, politicians and entertainers. Its got good reviews and its got hot bunnys so it sounds a winner to me, oh and the storys not half bad either!
Thats it for my round-up for the new season, im pretty sure i will have missed out plenty of your favourites but I thought i’d try and pick out some you may not have heard of or seen. Before I go I want to mention my fave show of the moment thats well into its first season, Suits, great legal based drama that tells a good story and is well worth a look, with the good news that its getting a 16 episode second series starting in 2012.
Have fun watching them and dont blame us if they’re total tosh!

I couldnt believe how long its been since we last posted anything on the site, nearly 9 months infact. So with the imminent arrival of some quality games I thought i’d post a quick update.

Battlefield 3
We couldn’t start anywhere else but with Battlefield 3 could we? The latest news is that the beta is finished and ready to go. However, the start of it is being delayed by Microsoft and Sony
the beta is ready for PC but because DICE want a simultaneous launch for console and PC we all have to wait for the console giants to give the code the all clear
….gay! On a good note, that means the beta isnt far away at all as this process usually only takes a week or so and rumours are they already had the code for a while. Maybe a beta launch next week then? heres hoping!
Additional info has come out about the maps. There will be 9 standard maps shipping with BF3 along with 4 others if you preorder and get the back to Karkand pack, totalling 13 which aint bad at all. All maps will also be playable as any of the 5 game modes.
Speaking of game modes , we now have info about them.
Rush – The Bad company game mode where the aim is to either blowup or defend M-com stations. Maximum 32 players on PC for this mode. The big change is that M-com stations cannot be destroyed using explosives they must be properly armed using the bomb charge.
Team Deathmatch – this is the classic game mode but will not include any vehicles, this mode is also limited to 24 players per map.
Squad Deathmatch – another BC2 mode back in bf3 , this has four squads of up to four players battling it out with one infantry vehicle per map.
Squad Rush – similar to rush in that the aim is to destroy m-coms, but two squads of 4 battle this one out.
Conquest – The good old classic BF mode is back and will be playable for between 32 and 64 players on PC.
Also, BF3 will include an infantry only mode which has no combat vehicles only transport. As well as a Hardcore mode similar to that seen in BC2.
and to finish the BF3 update we have some new in game video from the Tokyo Game show , check it out over at the usual place …. Click it you know you wanna
Modern Warfare 3
Its coming out a week after BF3 and it looks f*kin crap. As many people have said its basically a 40 quid map pack for mw2…..awful. (although we may end up buying it anyway
)
Star Wars Online thingy
Many people looking forward to this. The beta is supposedly out very soon and for MMO star wars geeks it looks like it will keep them out of the sunlight for a few months atleast.
Others….
The usual suspects are returning to pull in the xmas dollars, fifa 12 hits the streets soon, looks awesomeness as ever and is the only football game to buy if thats your thing. Football Manager 2012 is out before santa drops off his goods, same old same old but again if you like footy stats that look pretty this is definately worth a look. Formula one 2011 is out, looks even better and has all the new rules (DRS , KERS etc) and teams for this year, last years effort was great so expect all round improvements here. For the console only peeps check out forza4 on xbox, the only driving game to get on Mr Gates’s toy and dont forget Gears of War 3 is back for some amazing looking multiplayer goodness.
Expect us to go AWOL again as soon as BF3 turns up, so might see you all in 2012

Now that we’re well into the year already I thought a round up of all things geek was in order. There’s been plenty announced too over the past few weeks so lets get cracking!
Mobile Gaming:
New PSP 2 info has been released at the Sony Tokyo event. The new device codenamed the “NGP” (Next Generation Portable) looks like it could be an impressive piece of kit. Boasting a 5″ OLED display which has a reported resolution 4x greater than the current PSP. Dual Analog sticks have long been a request from many PSP gamers and sony hasn’t ignored this request. The front display has touch screen technology as well as a rear touch pad on the back of the device. It also covers all connectivity bases with 3G, GPS and Wi-Fi built in. The NGP includes motion sensing technology which uses the same internal gyro sensor as the Playstation Move controllers.

Anyone with an Android phone might also be interested in the announcement regarding whats being called the “Playstation Suite”. This is a new Sony development platform that isn’t hardware specific which can run on any new Android phone to play games and software. Anything designed to run on this platform will also run on the NGP. Keep your eye out for any new device with the “playstation certified” logo on it.
The specs of the NGP look impressive and the version of Uncharted that was shown looks amazing, no mention yet of pricing but expect to see it hitting shelves sometime before xmas.
Games for 2011:
This year looks like being a cracker for gaming, so much so you could probably mention a new major game release for every month of the year. It’s impossible to list everyones favourites, so heres what i’m looking forward to:
Homefront – expected release date 11th March
Althought Homefront could be yet another modern combat FPS game it does sound like it might bring something new to the party, in the shape of what the games developers are calling their “battle points (BP’s) system”. These points are awarded during battle for kills, assists and many other achievements. The player then gets to spend these points while playing to “purchase” various perks to improve their particular class or even provide new vehicles for themselves and their team at the relevant spawn points. The type of perks improve as the player increases rank.

The game also includes a Battle Commander feature, which, during certain Multiplayer game modes adds extra team based objectives. For example, if a certain player is doing exceptionally well the opposing team will be given orders on their HUD to target this player and end his killstreak to achieve bonus BP’s. It will be interesting to see if this actually works in the public multiplayer arena where most players play as loners and ignore any such teamwork but at least the game is trying to add something new to this over subscribed genre.
Crysis 2 – 25th March
I have to admit I never owned the first Crysis which by all accounts was a mistake. Well I might have to re-think my choice this time around after seeing some of the recent videos. Gone are the Jungle environments of the first game and in come the city streets of New York. For those that don’t know the story, earth has been ravaged by aliens and we are here to pwn those alien bastards! Most people saw the first Crysis game as nothing more than a technical exercise to show off the ground breaking graphics engine.

Although the new game is based on the even more amazing CryEngine3, the game itself has been written to provide a much more story driven experience. The gameplay is still all about your nanosuit which enables the player to swap between special abilities depending on the situation. The multiplayer details are still fairly scarce but expect the usual modes, however add in to the mix the fun and different options the nanosuit gives every player and this could be a real gem of an MP experience.
Duke Nukem Forever – 2nd May

First announced in 1997! the Duke is back….probably in May. Details are still pretty thin on the ground and not many official pictures of gameplay have even been released yet, however the demo has been seen and played so we know it exists. Theres no way it will be worth the 14 yar wait but it’ll still be a blast!
Brink – Spring 2011
This could be the hidden gem of FPS games in 2011. Like homefront this game tries to bring something different to an FPS game and Brink’s is very much its “SMART” control system. In simple terms it allows players to move around the levels without constraint. There are NO ladders in the game, there is no need. SMART allows players to grab hold of any surface and squeeze through gaps without having to press a specific jump key or crouch button, making the moves beautifully smooth. If you ever played Mirrors Edge you will be right at home here. However throw in big ol guns while your doing these moves and the outcome might well be brilliant. Alsom the level design shows great promise, the games maps are being designed by David Johnson, you wont know his name but he created the legendary Counter-Strike levels Dust, Dust2 and cbble! fingers crossed for a multiplayer experience to rival that then!
Other Games to look out for:
Test Drive Unlimited 2 (11th February) – The Driving MMO returns this time in Ibiza.
Total War: Shogun 2 (15th March) – Japanese battles at its best!
The Sims Medieval (25th March) – The sims are back but this time its all jesters and castles.
Portal 2 (21st April) – the amazing puzzle game gets multiplayer co-op modes amongst many other additions.

Afternoon all.
Just thought i’d post some up to date info about the upcoming COD game and a few links to some extended gameplay footage. The following could be classed as spoilers so if you are 6 ys old and dont want to spoil the surprise then close your eyes now.
Firstly, the game has been officially announced as a steam exclusive. So even if people buy the retail version it will require a steam account to play. As most PC players already use steam this should make it much easier to join friends online and to keep track of favourite servers etc. It sounds simple but it was almost impossible in BC2 and didnt even exist in MW2
ZOMBIES!!!!! yep we get to kill zombies in the PC version. This mode will be a survival game and can be played on your lonesome or if you have a friend they can join in too for some co-op action. If you complete the campaign you even get an unlocked zombie map which is based in the Pentagon while you take the role of JFK himself, bizarre. check out some gameplay here
Something i’m really looking forward to is the Theatre mode. Although there is’nt much official info about how this will work yet there has been a quick video released, although this is from the xbox version so no one yet knows if it will be the same on the PC. We do know however that there will be a demo command which was missing in MW2, although present in all previous cod games. What isn’t clear is if this will be additional to the theatre mode on the PC version or an added bonus for us old school movie makers. What Is reasonably safe to say though is you will definately be seeing “eXcited:Black OPS” the movie, expected release date xmas day 2010!
Check out the theatre mode preview here
Another new video is an hour long preview from gamespot. Again its console action so it might not be completely applicable to us PC players but it might be worth a watch if you are bored. I haven’t watched it yet so cannot comment any further on the content. Check it here
A little bit of info about the “contracts” side of the game. To earn extra CP (cod points) there are numerous contracts which you can accept. Each one usually has a time limit. So for instance you get 40 game minutes to get 20 headshots with the MP5. These contracts should add another level of achievement to the game and might make for quite a lot of shouting on vent
In my previous preview we also didnt know much about the dedicated servers. Although we are still waiting for more info about certain aspects, such as what the server browser will look like, we have had official confirmation about the maximum player numbers on servers. An unranked server will be limited to 24 players, while a ranked server will be 18. We have pre-ordered our own ranked server which will be up for a month to see how popular it gets and will give us somewhere to play if the servers are busy elsewhere. It will be quite nice to have kick/ban control back
If you haven’t checked out all the official videos yet then here is the offical youtube channel.
There is a live chat with the devs tonight so more PC info may follow in the next day or so…..
